Two Hiking Opportunities for Father’s Day Weekend

If you attended Lynne Zimmerman’s recent Down Home Maine presentation, “Take a Hike,” you’re undoubtedly aware of the virtues of hiking. This weekend you will have the opportunity to take not just one hike, but two!

On Saturday, June 17, join the Forest Service at Hastings Campground for a guided bird walk. Naturalist Paul Motts will lead a 1.5-mile walk where you will experience the beautiful melodies of birds in the National Forest. Hastings Campground is in the National Forest at Evans Notch along Route 113, not far from Gilead. Bring bug repellent.

On Sunday, June 18, Mahoosuc Land Trust enthusiast Steve Wight will lead a guided tour to the Greenwood Ice Caves. These fascinating geological formations often have ice year-round. Bring sturdy shoes, water, and bug repellent. Meet at the Locke's Mills Post Office parking lot at 2:00 pm. For more information email jeanpbass@gmail.com.
